Our client’s platform operates in over 10,000 cities across the globe, offering services including ride-hailing, food delivery, and electric bicycle rental and serving around 118 million people every month. As a result, it plays a crucial role in the fight against climate change and transitioning the transport sector to a low-carbon economy.

Our client has taken on an ambitious carbon reduction strategy to achieve net zero in key locations by 2030, cemented by a commitment to the Science Based Target initiative.

One of their critical aims is to encourage drivers of the 45,000 vehicles in London to drive electric vehicles. However, the lack of charging infrastructure poses a challenge, particularly in less affluent boroughs where the firm’s drivers may live. Proxima was appointed to assist in the collaboration between the client and Local Authorities to invest £5m to kick-start the transition to electric vehicles.

Proxima deployed category experts to bring together three Local Authorities, navigating a complex environment to unite private sector ambition within the context of public sector regulations. Our approach established new and innovative ways of working between the public and private sectors, encouraging both to mobilize their collective power to create a long-term solution.

Proxima’s unique approach has enabled our client to increase the level of charging infrastructure in areas that mattered most to drivers using the app data, with an expected additional 700 public access EV charge points installed within the first six months of 2023. This will allow our client to accelerate their transition towards electric vehicles, reducing carbon emissions.

The program exemplified the power of partnerships between the private sector and public government bodies when solving large-scale sustainability challenges.

“Proxima were pivotal to managing this project and ensuring collaboration between multiple local authorities and Uber. Their expertise in the public procurement process of EV infrastructure has been of great value to Uber throughout this project.”
