Proxima Profiles spotlights the people behind our work, from consultants and capability practice leads to the commercial teams driving our business forward. One conversation at a time, we explore the backgrounds, expertise, and personalities that make Proxima who we are.

“After two weeks of fantastic onboarding, I went straight onto client work.”
After just one month at Proxima, Tayla Wilmot has already experienced many of the things that make consulting unique: fast-paced learning, diverse client challenges and collaboration across borders.
Based in Melbourne, she joined the business with a strong academic foundation in supply chain transformation and a passion for education, but it was Proxima’s people and culture that ultimately sealed the deal.
Now working with teams across Australia and Malaysia, Tayla is embracing the opportunity to learn from colleagues across the region while building expertise across a range of categories.
She discusses her first month at Proxima, what has surprised her most so far, and why curiosity remains one of the most important tools for success in consulting.
Welcome, Tayla! What’s your role and what does an average week look like for you?
“After two weeks of fantastic onboarding, I went straight onto client work. I am currently working on a diagnostic with a team based across APAC, specifically in Melbourne, Sydney and Malaysia. I’m working on the Marketing, Professional Services and Human Resources categories with two colleagues. I’m learning what challenger sessions are like and their benefits. Each day involves analysing data, building narratives and slides, and then challenging / validating those narratives – both internally and externally.”
How would you describe your first month on the job? What brought you to Proxima?
“It has flown by. I have loved it. I have learnt a lot, met a lot of people, travelled – all in just 4 weeks. I was initially interested in Proxima due to the positioning as a professional procurement consultancy part of Bain & Company. What really sold the role for me were the people I met during the interview process. Everyone was professional, warm, and genuine. The culture that was explained to me during the interviews is what ultimately sold me on joining, and I can honestly say I feel that culture that was described.”
What are you most excited to work on or learn in your role?
“I’m excited to work on project across APAC, its great interacting with multiple team members and learning about different industries and categories. I want to continue to build relationships and contribute to Proxima as best as I can.”
What’s surprised you most about Proxima or consulting since you joined?
“The global access to subject matter experts (SMEs) and insights. I have already been on calls across the globe. Everyone has been so lovely, their willingness to jump on calls at difficult times (with the time differences) and spend time challenging and educating has been fantastic. The access we have to previous examples and industry insights is so helpful. I didn’t expect to have so much knowledge available.”
Outside of work, what’s something people might not know about you?
“I am passionate about education and teach university courses part-time when my schedule allows. My background in digital transformation and education has led me to play around with education focused AI tools in my spare time. I am also an avid sportsperson, having played high level hockey and cricket and most recently playing more golf. My partner and I use our love for golf as an excuse to travel to all sorts of places. Most recently we spent a weekend in Tassie playing Barnbougle but have also been fortunate enough to play at Kapalua in Hawaii and a few courses in Japan.”
